Abstract

A 20-year-old female patient came to the clinic with a chief complaint of impaction of the maxillary right canine. A patient was diagnosed with Class III malocclusion accompanied with transverse discrepancy. So, the maxilla was expanded using miniscrew-assisted rapid palatal expander (MARPE) to consolidate space for traction of the impacted canine and improve transverse discrepancy. After crown exposure by orthodontic traction of the impacted canine, root movement control with a torque spring was continued during the rest of the treatment period. In addition, distalization of the mandibular posterior teeth was performed to improve the overjet, overbite, and posterior teeth relationship. Occlusal relationship was improved without extrusion of the maxillary molars through indirect anchorage with MARPE while using Class III and anterior vertical elastics. As a result, it was possible to prevent the deterioration of the smile line by reducing the exposure of the anterior teeth which is caused by flattening of the occlusal plane.
